1.  VFR REPORTING POINTS AND LOCAL PROCEDURES

Reporting points for VFR flight

In order to expedite and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic into Khorat Airport, the procedures of inbound traffic for VFR flight, conventional and prop-jet aircraft be set up as follows

  1. Aircraft entering to land from northwest or northeast of Khorat Airport, shall report over MIKE Point (151100.0 N 1020400.00 E, approximately R360/15 NM from KRT TACAN) and/or NOVEMBER Point (150600.00 N 1020400.00 E, approximately R360/10 NM from KRT TACAN) When reaching NOVEMBER Point the aircraft will be instructed to join aerodrome traffic pattern accordingly.

  2. Aircraft entering to land from southwest or southeast of Khorat Airport, shall report over YANKEE Point (143500.00 N 1020400.00 E, approximately R180/20 NMfrom KRT TACAN) and/or Sierra Point (144500.00 N 1020400.00 E, approximately R180/10 NMfrom KRT TACAN) When reaching SIERRA Point the aircraft will be instructed to join aerodrome traffic pattern accordingly.

2.  Inbound - join circuit pattern at 45 º in the middle of the down at the following heights:

a. 1 500 FT for jet aircraft,
b. 1 000 FT for conventional aircraft,
c. 800 FT for light aircraft,
d. 500 FT for helicopter.

VTUN  AD 2.21  NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES

NIL

VTUN  AD 2.22  FLIGHT PROCEDURES

1.  VFR HELICOPTER ROUTES WITHIN KHORAT AIRPORT

Helicopter Operating Procedures as follow;

1.1 Helicopters flying VFR shall operate on the VFR helicopter routes under VMC while entering, leaving or transiting over Khorat controlled airspace, in accordance with the attached chart, except when directed by air traffic controllers.
1.2 Helicopters shall maintain 500 FT above ground level when following the VFR helicopter routes and make position reports of each reporting point on the VFR helicopter routes, unless otherwise advised by air traffic controllers.
1.3 Helicopters intending to fly via positions/points which not prescribed on the VFR helicopter routes shall advise air traffic controllers.
1.4 ATC instructions for helicopters operating on the VFR helicopter routes shall be issued as follows: (aircraft call sign) CLEARED TO (destination or point) VIA HELICOPTER ROUTES, MAINTAIN (altitude) REPORT ESTABLISHED [or REPORT OVER (point)]
1.5 Helicopters are responsible for obstacle and terrain clearance, if any manoeuvres deviate from the assigned VFR helicopter routes, regarding obstacle or terrain, the helicopter pilots shall advise air traffic controllers for such manoeuvres and, afterwards, resume on the VFR helicopter routes as soon as practicable.
1.6 Helicopters shall maintain own separation from other VFR traffic within Khorat controlled airspace, including Class C airspace. Air traffic controllers will provide traffic information, regarding known traffic, when available.
1.7 Air traffic controllers may instruct helicopters to fly via published VFR reporting points or instruct the helicopters to hold over any positions/points deemed necessary, depending on traffic conditions..
1.8 If helicopters encounter visibility below VMC minima during flight, the helicopter pilots shall advise air traffic controllers without delay.
1.9 Helicopters shall maintain two-way communication with Khorat Tower or khorat Approach while in Khorat control airspace and shall change over to other units only when instructed to do so by the controllers.
1.10 Before taking off from heliports or helipads within Khorat controlled airspace, helicopters shall contact Khorat Tower on frequency 122.2 MHZ or Khorat Approach on frequency 129.75 MHZ. If such communication could not be done, helicopter pilots/operators shall use other available means, e.g. telephones, to receive departure instructions and necessary information prior to take-off.
1.11 After take-off, two-way radio communication shall be established as soon as possible. If helicopters are unable to contact the ATC units before reaching altitude 500 FT above ground level, e.g. due to communication equipment failure, the helicopters shall return to land for solving the problem and notify Khorat Tower by telephone.
1.12 In case where helicopters departing from outside Khorat controlled airspace are unable to contact Khorat Approach or Khorat Tower before entering Khorat controlled airspace, the helicopters shall enter the VFR helicopter routes via the nearest reporting point and fly on the VFR helicopter routes to the destination as filed in the flight plan or as latest notified to air traffic controllers..
1.13 The completion of landings at heliports or helipads within Khorat controlled airspace shall be notified to Khorat Tower by radio or telephone as soon as practicable.

2.  Aerodrome traffic circuit

- Using both sides of traffic circuit.

2.1 Overhead Pattern
Fly initial at 300 KIAS. Pattern and Break altitude is 2,200 ft. MSL. The standard break is:

- Using runway 06 by Right turn pattern.
- Using runway 24 by left turn pattern.

2.2 Straight-In Pattern
Request a straight-in upon contact with Korat Approach and reiterate your request with Korat Tower when transferred to the tower frequency. Be at 1,700 ft. MSL by 6 NM.
2.3 Re-entry Pattern
The re-entry pattern altitude is 2,700 ft. MSL. Proceed to the 6 NM initial or closed traffic pattern as directed by Korat Tower.
2.4 Closed Traffic Pattern
Do not climb above 1,700 ft. MSL before the turn to downwind. Mid-field and present position closed patterns are authorized with Korat Tower approval.
3.  Radio Communication Failure Procedure

All attempts should be made to have radio-capable aircraft bring/chase NORDO aircraft home. If no chase ship is available, follow the single-ship recovery procedures below:

- Intercept KRT R-330 or R-150 at 10 DME 1,700 ft. MSL then proceeded inbound.

- Hold at 3-5 DME until the active runway can be determined.

- Join appropriate downwind at 7 NM initial.

- Fly low approach between runway and taxiway at 500 ft. AGL, rock wings.

- Pitchout at departure end, establish landing configuration, and check mobile control or tower for the green light on downwind
and/or on final.

- After landing, taxi clears off the runway and waits for the “Follow Me” vehicle.
