  INSTALLATION OF AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSERVING SYSTEMS (AWOS) AND LOW-LEVEL WIND SHEAR ALERT SYSTEM (LLWAS) AT UDON THANI AIRPORT (VTUD)

1  INTRODUCTION

This section supplements the following portion(s) of the AIP: AD

1  With effect from 17 January 2023 at 0100 UTC to 30 June 2023 at 2100 UTC, the purpose of this AIP Supplement is to inform all concerned of the installation of automated weather observing systems (AWOS) and low-level wind shear alert systems (LLWAS) at Udon Thani Airport (VTUD).

2   INSTALLATION DETAILS

2.1  The AWOS and LLWAS installation will be carried out at Runway 12/30 in 10 locations which can be divided into 2 areas as indicated below:

2.1.1  AREA1 (Landside) - LLWAS will be installed in 6 locations as follows:

  1. LLWAS 3 17°23'18.12''N 102°47'42.11''E

  2. LLWAS 4 17°22'52.68''N 102°48'20.13''E

  3. LLWAS 5 17°21'55.89''N 102°48'21.20''E

  4. LLWAS 6 17°22'12.64''N 102°47'47.73''E

  5. LLWAS 7 17°22'48.77''N 102°46'57.04''E

  6. LLWAS 8 17°23'20.13''N 102°46'07.72''E

2.1.2  AREA2 (Airside) - LLWAS and AWOS will be installed in 4 locations as follows:

  1. LLWAS 1 17°23'43.12''N 102°46'26.04''E

  2. LLWAS 2 17°23'22.83''N 102°47'06.03''E

  3. AWOS 12 17°23'25.18''N 102°46'40.51''E

  4. AWOS 30 17°22'50.70''N 102°47'51.25''E

2.2  At both thresholds of Runway 12/30, LLWAS and AWOS will be installed 110 metres from runway centreline.

2.3  The installation works will be performed daily between 0100 -1300 UTC and 1500-2100 UTC except when scheduled flights are operated.

2.4   Safety plan during installation period

  1. All vehicles and machinery in worksite will be equipped with 90 x 90 cm orange and white checkered flags or flashing yellow lights.

  2. The installation locations will be demarcated by highly visible barriers painted in alternate bands of red and white or orange and white.

  3. Personnel in worksite are required to wear a reflective safety vest to meet safety requirements.

4  This AIP Supplement will remain current until 30 June 2023 at 2100 UTC. Any changes to this AIP Supplement will be notified through NOTAM.
